oxelösund marina, phase 2, 2011
- reception with shop, café and office

The reception building of Oxelösund Marina has the combined function of a reception, a café, a chandlery and a marina back office. The building opens onto the harbor entrance to guide and welcome incoming boat guests. Its outdoor spaces are designed to give the visitors sheltered seats in the sun overlooking the water and the boats.

Just as the adjacent service building of the marina from the first phase of construction, the structural massive timber walls are exposed exteriorly forming the facades of the building. The wooden roofing is done with a traditional technique in Scandinavia known as a "faltak". The entire exterior is finished with fragrant "Roslagen Mahogany" - a dark pigmented mixture of tar, linseed oil and turpentine, traditionally used for boat hulls and docks.   Inside, the walls and ceilings are bright white, as in the acceding outdoor spaces, which the building embraces towards the south and the west. Old concrete foundations from previous structures in the harbor have been retained and integrated into the new facility. For example, a former fishing industry ice machine lends its foundation to the reception building.

The shop fittings are ocean blue. A boat hull served as inspiration to the shape of the café and reception desk. A water surface in close up laminated on a glass plate forms the back-scene of the shop space.

The building is reached via a wooden deck provided with lighting and a number of integrated benches. The deck connects the reception building to the docks as well as to the service building of the marina. At its eastern end the deck is turned into steps to sit on facing the water and the entrance of the harbor.

The marina facility is designed to both link boat guests to the town of Oxelösund and to offer the public from land an interesting link to the sea.
